Springtime in Spain and Portugal with 2nd Presbyterian

12 Nights: March 19 – April 1, 2019

Join Rev. Kristin Riegel of Second Presbyterian Church on this exploration of the ancient cultures and religions that dominated Andalucía, Spain and Lisbon, Portugal! This is a small group tour and we will visit Seville, Spain when the orange blossoms are blooming! Everyone is welcome to join this beautiful tour!

Projected Base Tour Cost: $5,400 to $5,800 per person based on double occupancy including airfare.

Tuesday, March 19:

Travel day from the U.S. to Seville, Spain
Meals included: Meal during the transatlantic flight

Wednesday, March 20: In Seville

A private charter bus from the airport will meet us; our bags to our hotel.

It’s a wonderful Wednesday exploring Kansas City’s twin city in the company of a local guide.  We will see the original La Giralda Tower, the impressive Cathedral and the Alcázar, the official residence of Spain’s king and queen.

Accommodations: 3 nights at the Hospes Las Casas Del Rey De Baeza a boutique hotel located in Seville’s historic center.  This beautiful building was once a residence in the 18th century, now this deluxe hotel offers a perfect place of calm in the heart of this vibrant city.  Our stay package will include free WiFi and a great breakfast buffet.

Thursday, March 21: In Seville

A lovely day to explore more of Seville!

Evening: Dinner and exciting Flamenco Show!

Meals included: Breakfast at the hotel and Dinner at the Flamenco Club

Friday, March 22: In Seville and Cádiz

Today we experience a fun excursion to visit historic Cádiz and a sherry winery.  Time at the bodega includes a tour of the sherry-making process and a tasting with a tapas lunch.

Saturday, March 23: In the Pueblos Blancos – Ronda

Following breakfast, we venture to one of the most stunning White Villages in this region – Ronda.

After our arrival in town, we’ll have a walking tour with a local guide.  Time on own to shop, see the oldest bullfight ring and have lunch on your own.

Accommodations: 2 nights at Parador de Ronda, a most unique hotel set in a former Town Hall building.  Our stay package includes free WiFi, swimming pool facilities and a marvelous breakfast.  Offering spectacular views of Ronda’s gorge and Puente Nuevo Bridge, the rooms at Parador de offer private balconies.

Sunday, March 24: In Ronda

Enjoy a peaceful Sunday in this lovely town full of quaint shops, pretty churches and gorgeous views!

Monday, March 25: The Costa del Sol Drive to Granada
A scenic drive along the sun-drenched Costa del Sol with a stop in Málaga to take in the Picasso Museum in the city center; admission included though this is a self-guided visit.

Then to Nerja to see the views and have a fun paella Lunch on the beach!

Accommodations: While in Granada, we will stay at NH Collection Victoria Hotel for 2 nights. This 19th-Century building is in the historical center of Granada, 1,000 feet from the Cathedral. The Alhambra is within a 10-minute drive of the property. The NH Collection Victoria offers free WiFi and an abundant breakfast buffet.

Tuesday, March 26: In Granada

Today we visit the spectacular Alhambra.  We will go in the morning following breakfast at the hotel. To enhance your experience inside the Alhambra, private guides will take us through the gorgeous Nasrid Palace and the terraced gardens of the Generalife.

Rest of Day and Evening: Time to explore Granada on your own and find the free tapas!

Wednesday, March 27: On the Road to Córdoba

In the morning we’ll journey to the charming and historic city of Córdoba.
Shortly after arrival, we’ll meet a local guide for a tour of the magnificent Mezquita and the charming Jewish Quarter.

Rest of day: Time to explore Córdoba on your own.

Accommodations: 2 nights at the NH Collection Amistad Córdoba
At this centrally-located hotel, you will enjoy lovely, comfortable amenities including free WiFi and buffet breakfasts both mornings.

Thursday, March 28: In Córdoba

Staying in this historic city offers the opportunity for an in-depth tour with a local historian guide on the three cultures that once thrived here in harmony: Christian, Muslim and Jewish.  This Three Cultures Tour will be in the morning and afterwards, you’ll have the afternoon open to visit a museum that was highlighted on the tour.

Evening: An exciting Andalucía Equestrian Show at the Royal Stables!

Friday, March 29: To Lovely Lisbon

Following breakfast at the Cordoba hotel, we make our way to the Seville Airport where we’ll take a one-hour flight to Lisbon, arriving there midday to early afternoon.

Upon arrival, we’ll meet a local guide who will show us the highlights and beauties of Lisbon.

Accommodations: 3 nights at the Hotel da Baixa, a charming newer boutique hotel located in the prime center of Lisbon’s historic downtown area.  Here, we’ll be close to the harbor and the famous Rossio Square and a short walk from the iconic Santa Justa Lift.

Meals included: Breakfast the hotel; snacks on the flight

Saturday, March 30: Getting to Know Lisbon

A day to discover more of the charms of Lisbon.

Sunday, March 31: A Palatial Palace and a Fado Club

Today we’ll go outside of Lisbon to the fairytale village of Sintra!  We’ll go by train to Sintra and from there also see the whimsical and beautiful Pena Palace. There will be some time on your own to shop and have lunch

Evening: Our Tour Celebration Dinner at Clube de Fado! We’ll enjoy a fabulous dinner at a traditional Fado club featuring Portugal’s classic music genre.

Monday, April 1: Return to U.S.

Today we depart from the Lisbon Airport for the U.S.

Springtime in Andalucia and Portugal Tour includes:

  • Round-trip airfare from Kansas City (or your home airport*) to Seville, Spain and then return from Lisbon, Portugal;
  • One-way flight from Seville to Lisbon
  • Ground transportation aboard comfortable privately charted buses;
  • Hotels selected for uniqueness, location, ambiance, amenities and service: all 4-star hotels in Seville (3) nights; Ronda (2 nights); Granada (2 nights); Cordoba (2 nights); and Lisbon (3) nights;
  • Porterage when available at the hotels;

$500 per person to secure your spot on this fantastic tour; deposit applies to your base tour costs; (Note: this tour does not include travel insurance; buying travel insurance is an option and a personal decision; if you wish to purchase travel insurance and you have a pre-existing medical condition, you must purchase travel insurance within 2 weeks of paying a deposit to Lisa Ball Travel Design)

*Lisa Ball Travel Design can arrange airfare from other U.S. airports or provide help with other travel extensions to this tour before or after the tour dates; an extra fee of $50 per person will apply to make these arrangements and also any additional costs charged by the airline if another arrival or departure destination is selected by the traveler.

Payment Plan:

Monthly payments of $1,000 beginning August 2018 through December 2018 due on the first of each month.

Cancellation Policy:

If you must cancel your participation with this tour please note November 1, 2018 is the tour cut-off date.  Canceling before November 1, 2018, LBTD will cheerfully refund your deposit and any monies you have paid prior to this date.  Canceling on November 1, 2018 or after, the costs of the tour and deposit are non-refundable.

Tour Documents:

Lisa Ball Travel Design will ask each participant to complete a passport info form and personal ID/waiver form.  Each person must have a valid U.S. passport to travel with the expiration date six months after our return from Spain and Portugal.
